your most transformative moments

i enter your space

with an open heart

I abandon my analytical brain. Because it is impossible to predict and analyze when you are watching someone transform from one to two people. It's insane! And magic! And other-worldly! And actually just so common and normal and how we all became.

I sit with you in this space and just observe in a very deep deep way. And I am constantly reminded that this place of witnessing is my favorite place to be in. What an honor it is to see you move through labor. To witness your power. And to document it in a way that allows you to look back and see it too.

Let’s Meet

Reach out via the contact page. You’ll hear back from me within 48 hours and we can schedule a time for a phone, zoom or in person meeting. I’ll share with you a bit more about the way I work, what you can expect, and you will have a chance to share your birth hopes and dreams!

Secure Your Spot

I take a very limited number of birth clients each month. That means it’s best to secure your spot early in your pregnancy. When you’re ready to work with me, I send you a contract and invoice. Once you’ve signed and paid the retainer, your spot is reserved on my calendar!

Before Baby

I attend your birth team meeting as well as a one-on-one visit around 36 weeks so we can get to know each other. If you've hired me for maternity photos as well, this meeting can take place then, otherwise we can arrange a time to chat.

FAQ

  • I attend your birth team meeting as well as a one-on-one visit around 36 weeks so we can get to know each other. If you've hired me for maternity photos as well, this meeting can take place then, otherwise we can arrange a time to chat.

I am on call 24/7 from 38 weeks until you give birth.

I photograph labor, birth and the few hours after as you all settle in together.

Within 24 hours I'll send you 3 edited images so that you have something to share with family/friends as you announce your baby's arrival.

Within 4 weeks, I'll send you a complete gallery of images, high-resolution and downloadable for your personal use.

  • Being on call 24/7 means just that! I’m available to you whatever hour you need me. My phone is right next to my bed with my ringer on high, ready to hear from you. And I love it! I get so excited to hear that your baby is getting ready to join us in the world. I’m so excited to see you in all your power and grace as you work through this transition. I’m filled with energy knowing I get to witness you shift from one body to two. I am ready to show up for you.

  • Short answer: Yes, but… I use my flash as little as possible, and in the least noticeable ways possible.

Long answer: Light is my medium. I follow light. I analyze light. I see the light streaming through the windows and reflecting off the shine of the floors. When I am photographing newborns or families I work exclusively with the natural light that is available to me.

When it comes to birth, often labor and birthing happens in the dark or near dark. I capture that - the dark room lit only by the glow of the bathroom nightlight… the shades drawn with just a sliver of light shining on the wall behind you. I have the equipment and skill that allows for making beautiful photos in these spaces. And then when it comes to the moment of birth, things are moving faster and in order to capture these fleeting moments we may need more light. In that case I use a flash. Always bounced off the ceiling or a wall and never pointed towards anyone. My use of flash is as subtle and sparingly as possible - I find that most people don’t even notice that I’ve used it at all.

  • I am a lifelong artist! I have professional training both as a photographer and specifically photographing and being in the birth space.

My undergraduate degree is in visual communication and included as many photography classes as I could take (I still dream of the long days spent in the dark room). I spent the first part of my career as a graphic designer, before making the switch to focussing on photography full time.

I completed course work and am a certified professional birth photographer through Birth Becomes You. I am trained to understand and be prepared for a variety of birth scenarios.

You can read more about me and my background here.

  • Yes! 50% of you payment is due upon booking and the remaining 50% is due at 36 weeks, before I go on call for you.

I also offer gift cards if you’d like to include contributions towards my services on a baby registry.

the moment when

you first lay eyes on your baby

Truly nothing more magical

The kind of magic that sticks with you for a lifetime. But the moment is so overcome with emotion that the details become a blur.

These photos allow you to really sink into that feeling. To process it. And they mirror back all the strength and tenderness that you held that day. And that you continue to hold everyday as a parent.
